Pete's Walks - Hertfordshire Chain Walk

About my walk

As the Hertfordshire Chain Walk consists of a series of circular walks, there was not the usual need for me to walk the route in both directions in order to return to my car. However, I chose to do so anyway, in order to make the walk twice the challenge. It took me 13 days of walking to complete the Hertfordshire Chain Walk in both directions, spread over about six weeks in October and November 2006.

At the start of the walk I generally followed the route by looking at the map, only occasionally referring to the guide book. For some reason, though, by the end of the walk I was using the guide book all the time and just checking on the map now and again.

Ponsbourne Place (Walk 2)

The guide book is pretty much just a route description, with almost no historic or other factual information about the places visited on the Hertfordshire Chain Walk. So I spent a little while researching the route on the internet (by simply entering place names into Google and seeing what came up). Most of the information I give in this journal is from this source.

All the mileages I give are taken from the guide book.

Note: I have numbered each photograph (in red) and inserted the same number in the text to show where in the walk the photo was taken.
