A bridleway on a track alongside the edge of Bradenham Manor's grounds led uphill towards the woods of Naphill Common. At a track junction, I kept straight on, this track soon turning right and heading uphill through the woods. Near the top of the slope it rejoined the first track, which soon passed Bradenham Hill Farm and entered Naphill Common. The bridleway continued on through the trees, soon running along a wide grassy break in the trees.

After a third of a mile or so I took a footpath forking half-right through the woods. This went up and down a small dip, then reached a couple of path junctions in quick succession - I carried on roughly straight ahead, keeping close to the edge of the wood on my right (this part of the path isn't on the OS map but it's an Open Access area). After a short distance I came to a junction with a bridleway, where I turned half-right again (southwards), and headed towards Downley Common. The first part of the bridleway was very muddy, but beyond a crossing track or drive it was well surfaced and easy to walk on. I passed a pond on the left, and continued along the bridleway until it reached the cricket ground on the edge of Downley, where I turned right and stopped on a bench to eat my packed lunch.
