Beyond the garden, I continued along the path as it dropped downhill through Hartmoor Wood - as so often in woods, I was guided by the occasional white arrow painted on a tree. In the valley bottom the path left the wood through a metal kissing gate (where another path came in from the right), and then followed the edge of the wood on my left as it rose up the other side of a small valley, with a large field on my right. A few yards beyond the next corner of this field, I reached a path junction where I turned right. This fairly level path ran through an area of trees and bushes, then descended across another large field to reach Penley Wood and the long footpath that runs through the valley called Twigside Bottom.

I turned left along the footpath, and followed it along the wooded valley floor for almost a mile. When the wood ended, the path continued along a headland between ploughed fields, before joining a farm track that continued towards Coopers Court farm. Just before reaching the farm, I turned right along the farm drive to pass under the M40 motorway and reach Stokenchurch. Here I continued straight on down a street that brought me to a green and the main road (the A40)  that runs through this large village.
