The road I now followed through part of Holmer Green was actually the southern end of Penfold Lane. After less than a quarter of a mile (almost opposite a street named Winter's Way) I turned left down a track, passing a couple of cottages on my right - this was the start of Kingstreet Lane (which I walked in the other direction last week). There was then quite a long flat stretch with hedges either side, the only views available being when I passed field gates either side. The lane then dropped slightly downhill between Haleacre Wood on my left and Coleman's Wood to my right.

As I left the woods, there were attractive views either side. The 'lane' then dropped steadily downhill between tall overhanging hedgerows. At the bottom of the slope, the lane turned right and then left. When I then came to a gap in the hedgerows either side, I turned right onto a footpath, part of the South Bucks Way. In the next field corner, I went straight on along the other end of Penfold Lane, on the edge of Little Missenden. After a while the lane appeared to turn left - in fact the OS map shows that I was at a T-junction with Beamond End Lane. If I'd followed it left into the village, I would have soon reached a junction close to where I'd started (just to the left).

Looking left down Beamonds End Lane (I turned right and went the opposite way) - the old house at the end of the street is the Manor House, the church where I started is just to its left
