I now followed the bridleway for over a mile as it snaked its way along a valley bottom through a succession of woods, very gradually descending. I saw quite a variety of wild flowers here, the highlight being 10 or 12 White Helleborine, a type of orchid.

Eventually I reached Dolesden Lane, where I turned right, still with part of Poynatt's Wood on my right. As I came to the end of the wood, I took a path that went into it. After a hundred yards or so, the path left the wood and rose uphill across a sheep pasture. It then entered another part of Poynatt's Wood, continuing a little further uphill before turning left along a track. After a few hundred yards the path turned left along a sunken lane with the edge of the wood on my left. It then turned right, running between a fence on my left and the wood to my right - there were nice views here across the northern end of the Hambleden Valley. The path then turned left, dropping downhill between fences to reach the end of a drive, which I followed a short way to reach the road through Skirmett.
