From the wood, the path continued alongside a hedge on my left, detouring round the grounds of a property marked Dirtywood Farm on the OS map, and then following its drive to the road that runs through the valley of Hampden Bottom. Across the road I followed the drive to Solinger House, continuing along it for about half a mile until it turned right. Here I went through a gateway and immediately turned left along a path through Knighton Hill Wood (another path went straight on here).

After a while the path climbed steepishly for a while in an area of beech trees, but soon turned right and only rose very slightly after that. There was now a field close by on my left for a while, then the wood was on both sides again, before I reached a large ploughed field. The path carried straight on beside it, with the wood on my right. In the next corner of the field the path carried straight on through Barne's Grove, after a while joining part of the ancient earthwork called Grim's Ditch.

The path emerged from the wood at a road junction, where I went straight on down a lane through the tiny hamlet of Redland End. Where a path crossed the lane (after the last of the few properties on the right), I turned right and followed the path through Hillock Wood for almost half a mile until it met a crossing bridleway, where I again turned right.
