A common and easily recognisable flower, I saw it many times in the grassier places I visited on my second Chiltern Way walk. Apparently it was the Ancient Greeks who thought it looked like the eyes of their oxen - what with Homer describing the sea as 'Wine-Red', I'm beginning to wonder what drugs they were on ...
