I have seen these quite often on my walks. Locally I have seen them near Bison Hill.

FEMALE Common Blue ab caerulescens - Photo taken 24/05/24 at Knocking Hoe, Beds. I thought this female Common Blue looked a bit unusual when I saw it, and when I posted a photo on a Facebook group for butterfly enthusiasts I was told it was an 'abberration', 'ab caerulescens' to be precise. An aberration is simply a variation in the wing pattern of a butterfly species, which can occur for genetic or environmental reasons. Aberrations are usually very rare, but some recur on a fairly regular basis and so have been specifically named. Some very dedicated butterfly enthusiasts actively search out these aberrations. This is the first one I've ever seen.
