Pete's Walks- Bledlow and Radnage (page 4 of 4)

When the bridleway turned sharply right, I took a path going left and climbed steadily up to the top of Lodge Hill. The path continued between bushes, and then I stopped for a rather late lunch on a convenient bench (with great views to Whiteleaf Hill and out over the low lying land north of the Chilterns).

I then continued on over the hill and down the wooded slope on the western end. The path continued alongside a left-hand hedge row, then went left through a kissing-gate and across a cornfield. I went straight on at a junction in the middle of this field, and across a corner of the next field to reach Wigan's Lane. A path started almost opposite, following a hedge on the left. Just after another path came in from the left, the path switched to the other side of the field boundary, and ran along the right edge of a large pasture.

I was now back on another part of the Chiltern Way, which I'd now follow back to Bledlow. Partway along a tree belt on the right, a path forked half-right and crossed a field to a another tree belt. It continued steeply through this and across another field. I crossed a drive and continued alongside a tall hedge on my right. I followed this for some distance through two large cornfields to return to Bledlow - I was hurrying a bit as I could see rain approaching, but it just caught me as I reached the village and turned right to reach my parked car.

I'd really enjoyed this shorter walk both times I'd done it before, and it was just as good this time too. In fact I think the two slight alternatives I did today actually improved the walk and I think I'll use them from now on whenever I do this route. And I'm sure I will do it again - it has a good mixture of woods and fields, three 'ups and downs' and some good views from Chinnor Hill, Bledlow Ridge and Lodge Hill.
