Pete's Walks- Coombe Hill and Redland End (page 4 of 5)

I turned right along the bridleway, heading away from Parslow's Hillock (I've walked this bridleway many times, including doing it in the opposite direction on this Whiteleaf Hill and Loosley Row walk four weeks ago). The bridleway followed the top of the Chiltern escarpment northwards through the woods for about half a mile, before it turned right alongside a field on the left and soon reached a road (the one I'd crossed at Redland End). I followed the road left. Previously here I've always then taken the first footpath on the right (which goes down the drive of the first residence in Green Hailey) but today I decided I'd do something different and continued through the hamlet and then took a bridleway on the right. This cut a corner of a meadow, then followed the right edge of the meadow beside a hedge.

In the field corner I went through a gate and straight on over a bridleway junction into Sergeant's Wood. For a few yards here I was back on the route I usually take, but then ventured into new territory once more as I took a path forking right, into the wood. After a short distance, the path started to follow a broad track through the trees alongside a line of telephone wires. After five or six hundred yards I came to a slightly staggered path crossroads, where I had to go a few yards right before continuing on in the same direction as before. After a couple of hundred yards or so, the path left the wood and followed the right edge of a field, soon dropping downhill with Cross Coppice on my right.

In the field corner I went through a hedge gap ahead of me and turned left - I was now on the path from the drive to Solinger House which I mentioned earlier, which I could have used to shorten the walk. This path took me to Ninn Wood, where I turned right along a bridleway on the edge of the wood, with paddocks just feet away to my right. This bridleway (which I've only walked once or twice before) took me to a road, close to a small car park below the southern side of Pulpit Hill.
