I turned right at the road junction, and followed the minor road for about a quarter of a mile before turning left onto a bridleway that started along the drive of a property named Pophley's. A footpath soon went left, but I stayed on the bridleway as it followed the drive round to the right. At the end of the drive the bridleway continued on into Pophley's Wood, where it turned slightly left and dropped steadily downhill through the wood. On leaving the wood at the bottom of the slope, the bridleway followed a track between large ploughed fields - there were nice views along the valley either side of me here.

The track ended when it met Grange Farm Road (despite the name, it's a lane). I turned left, and when the lane turned right I went straight on along a bridleway that followed a roughly surfaced track name Collier's Lane. This was very easy walking, as the track was very flat, following quite a broad valley bottom with ploughed fields either side. There were a large number of Lesser Celandine and Wood Anemones in the grass beside the track. After just over half a mile I came to a fork where a footpath went half-left but I stayed on the bridleway and track which went half-right. Soon the bridleway was running just inside Crowell Wood, which sloped up to my right. After another quarter of a mile or so I had Lott Wood on my left.
