After about a third of a mile the footpath entered Wellgrove Wood, most of which was a very charming Beech Wood - it was simply delightful today, with the fresh green leaves on the tress. The path ran through the wood for about half a mile, passing a stand of Yew trees on the right near the end of the wood. On leaving the wood, the path continued along a hedge on the left through some parkland near Soundess House (which I could see away to my right). After several hundred yards I went through a gate in a corner to reach Crocker End.

Approaching Crocker End
I followed a drive or lane from the gate, soon with the village green on my left, and then took a footpath on the right (the finger-post indicated it was part of the Southern Extension of the Chiltern Way, which I'd now be following for half a mile or so). The path soon entered the area of parkland I'd been in before, going half-left to a gate in a corner. I then turned right along a lane, soon nearing Soundess Farm to my left. Instead of turning left to the farm I went straight on, with a wooden garden fence on my right, following a byway along a track into the Warburg nature reserve. I was soon back into more delightful Beech woods, with the track then dropping down into a valley.
