Pete's Walks- Redland End and Bryant's Bottom (page 4 of 5)

I turned left along the edge of an empty cattle pasture with Nanfan Wood now on my left - there was a fence on my right, new since I last came this way. There was a slight rise here over the brow of a hill. The path continued beside the wood through a second pasture and into a third, where I started to drop back down into the valley I'd just crossed - there was a nice view right here of woods, fields, hills and valleys. Just before reaching the end of Nanfan wood on my left, the path went half-left to cut through a tiny corner of the wood, then continued in the same direction downhill across a large field (the same one I'd been in a short while before) to reach a road junction.

I crossed over and took the footpath on the opposite side - I was pleased to see there was a new metal gate here, as last time I came this way the old stile that was here was in such a precarious state I'd been considering following the lane instead of taking this path. The path followed the hedge beside Rolls Lane (on my right) uphill through a large empty pasture. After a few hundred yards, it turned left between fences (there was a gap in the hedge here, so I could also have just followed the lane to this point, as I'd been considering) to almost reach the top of the slope. I then crossed a large empty paddock to reach a stile that led into a small field behind a couple of houses. The path went half-left here alongside a fence, then went through the back garden and down the drive of the leftmost house, to reach a lane.

I went a few yards left along the lane, then took a footpath starting on the other side. This went through the left edge of a pasture or paddock. It went a few yards into the next field, then turned right at a path junction and headed towards Denner Farm. On reaching the farm I continued along its drive, until just a short distance after it had turned right. I then took a footpath on the left through Hampden Common, initially with a permissive bridleway close by on my left. On reaching a path fork, with a waymark post, I kept right and soon reached a drive or track on the edge of the common, where I turned left.
