On leaving the wood, the path soon joined a hedgerow on the right, initially through a meadow sloping up to my left. It continued along a farm track, and then followed a line of trees with some horse-jumps beside them. It eventually brought me to the drive to Shardeloes (a large mansion that is now divided into apartments), where I turned right and followed the drive gently downhill to reach Amersham cricket ground.

I turned left into the cricket ground and followed its drive round to the back of the pavilion, then went half-right across grass to a pedestrian gate. A path led on between fences for a hundred yards or so, then I went through a gate into the grounds of Shardeloes. There was now a lake to my right, and soon I could see Shardeloes up on the hill to my left. I spotted some Orange Balsam growing on the edge of the lake. There was either an event or some work going on here, as there was a long row of traffic cones here [UPDATE 15/03/2024: I've since realised the work was to repair (or make safe) a sinkhole that was caused by the tunnelling for the HS2 rail line].
