The bridleway followed a hedgerow on my left, and after a hundred yards or so there was another hedge to my right. The bridleway then ran just inside a wood, all the while very gradually gaining height as it approached Aston Hill. At some point the wood became Aston Wood and soon after the wood was on both sides. After very gradually going up the slopes of Aston Hill (the Aston in the names of the wood and hill refer to the nearby village of Aston Rowant) for a while, there was a short steeper section, then the bridleway turned left and the incline became very gradual again. After another several hundred yards the bridleway reached the A40 at the top of Aston Hill.

I turned left along the A40, and soon came to a junction where I turned left. I followed this road for two or three hundred yards to where it turned left, where I went straight on along a bridleway. This followed a drive a short way before forking left (just before a house). It then ran just inside Kingston Wood, with fields to my right. After about half a mile, I turned right onto a footpath that I'd not walked before. This went uphill, between a tall hedge to my left and the wooden fence of a large paddock. At the top of the slope, the path passed to the right of Gurdon's Farm and continued as a farm track with wooden fence either side - there was nice view to the left here. The track dropped quite steeply downhill for a short distance, then turned left to reach Hawing Wood.
