The path followed a fence on the left running downhill from Cobstone Hill. This is one of the steepest paths that I know of in the Chilterns, at one point it looks like you are approaching a sheer drop as the path falls away so steeply. There were very good views again, left towards the Hambleden valley, ahead over Turville towards Southend, and right along the valley that I'd shortly be following. Turville, at the foot of the hill, was as charming as ever, though obviously quite busy with visitors (many attracted by its role as the setting for The Vicar of Dibley, no doubt).

I turned right and followed a lane out of the village, but soon took a bridleway on the left. This followed a hedgerow, gradually curving right. Where it met the edge of Churchfield Wood, I took a path on the left that rose steadily through the trees, and then along the top of a hillside. Again it was very pleasant walking through the wood, and there were occasionally nice views over the valley on my right.

I eventually reached a path junction, where I turned right along a track. After a few yards I took a footpath on the right (the second junction, immediately after where the bridleway I'd been on earlier came in). After a few hundred yards I turned left at the next footpath junction. This next section was very good indeed, as the path contoured along the ridge south of a large valley, through Churchfield Wood and then Idlecombe Wood. The path was a delight to follow, with continual glimpses through the trees on my right over the valley I was accompanying westwards.
