After a hundred yards or so the bridleway turned right, and continued for about half a mile between fences and then intermittent hedges, with pleasant views over a valley on my left. The bridleway than passed a small wood or plantation on my right, then continued between tall hedges for several hundred yards to reach a bend in a minor road. Here I went right, following the road through a valley called Flaunden Bottom for a quarter of a mile or so.

I then took a bridleway on the left, which rose uphill between fences (there were a few horses in the field on my left) to reach Long Wood. I continued up through the wood, and at a bridleway junction on the far edge of the wood I continued straight on. The bridleway now levelled off and ran between hedges. After another quarter of a mile or so I turned right along a byway, which I followed for about half a mile to reach Baldwin's Wood.

A bridleway continued straight on through the wood. On reaching the far side after about half a mile, the bridleway turned left, initially beside the wood, then curved right and dropped down into the Chess Valley. On reaching a bridleway T-junction, I turned left and after a quarter of a mile or so I reached Mill Farm and a lane at Chenies Bottom.
