I crossed the lane and took a path on the other side starting up a concrete farm drive. The path continued along the edge of a field, still with the sound of the A41 close by on my right. At a path junction I turned left, following a hedge on my left uphill (I think this route is better in the opposite direction mainly because I stopped two or three times to admire the far-reaching views behind me). When the hedge ended the path levelled out quickly as it ran between two fields to reach a corner of Stubbing's Wood. The path continued beside the wood on my right for about a hundred yards, then I entered the wood (where the edge of the wood jutted out a few yards). I immediately reached a path junction where I went half-right, dropping downhill through the wood for a short way to reach another path junction.

Here I turned left, and followed a level path through the wood for several hundred yards (I think this is the first time I'd walked it in this direction). The path eventually descended a few yards to what appeared to be a path crossroads, where I turned right to drop downhill through the wood along what the OS map shows is a byway (one of four or five hereabouts). At the bottom of the slope I turned left onto another byway, still just inside the wood. After a short while I turned right, this byway leaving the wood and running between hedgerows.
