I turned right along the lane, spotting Goldilocks Buttercups and Greater Stitchwort amongst the flowers growing in the hedgerows and soon managing to take my first photo of a Brimstone butterfly in 2022. I passed Valley Farm (Valley End Farm on the OS map) on my left and a cottage on the same side a bit further on. I then reached the start of a footpath along a farm track on the left, but before going that way I took a short detour straight on to get a photo of the old church of St James in Bix Bottom (I seem to be on a tour of my favourite Chiltern churches at the moment, having passed Fingest church and Little Missenden church on my previous two walks).

The path along the farm track (going to Crocker End) followed a hedge on the left, initially with the old church visible through the trees on my right. The track gradually rose uphill, and I soon had a view back over the old church to the opposite hillside, with Warmscombe Lane running through the trees at the top. There were a few Bluebells growing in the hedgerow, as they were in many places on this walk.
