Eventually this very tightly enclosed path emerged into a much more open area, running between a hedge on the left and a wire fence on the left, with a fine view along a valley on the edge of Chesham - the valley contains Pednor Road and is possibly called Pednor Bottom, a name that appears further along it (in the opposite direction to the way I was walking). I followed the path past two paddocks or fields on my left, then it turned right for a few yards before turning left and continuing in the same southeastern direction as before, now with an area of bushes descending the slope on my right. When I came to a path junction, I turned sharply right on a path that descended through the bushes to reach Pednor Road. Across this I took the leftmost of two paths crossing a large paddock half-right, then continued across a smaller paddock to reach a lane.

I turned right and followed the lane for a short distance - I ignored a bridleway going left, then took a second one just after the lane turned right. I then followed the bridleway along the bottom of a pleasant valley called Herberts Hole, going almost dead straight in in a westerly direction for about a mile and a half.

The bridleway ended at a lane junction, where I went straight on for a few yards then took a footpath on the right. This went uphill between hedges and fences, then continued along a drive for a short distance to reach a path junction where the drive turned right.
