I turned left along Bottom Lane, following it until it turned sharply right when I continued ahead into Hodgemoor Woods. I now followed a rather convoluted route through the woods, simply to walk some paths I'd never used before. Almost immediately I turned left onto a bridleway, that initially ran just inside the southern edge of the woods. After a short distance it turned half-right, and after three or four hundred yards it brought me to a five-way junction, where I turned right. This path soon brought me to two parallel crossing paths, where I correctly guessed I needed to turn left along the second one (I could have reached this spot by simply going straight on when I entered Hodgemoor Woods).

In less than a hundred yards a white arrow indicated where the footpath switched to the first of the two parallel paths. I continued through the very pleasant woods for about another half a mile, then turned right when I reached a path T-junction near an edge of the woods. For just a few yards I was back on the route I used last May, but then I forked right on a permissive bridleway. After about a quarter of a mile I could see the car park on Botterells Lane just ahead of me - I also spotted a couple of benches, one of which made a convenient spot to sit and and eat my packed lunch (it was now just before 1pm).

I then continued through the car park, taking a path on the other side that ran parallel to Botterells Lane just a few yards to my left. I kept left at a slight fork, and followed the path for several hundred yards until I reached some wooden barriers close to the edge of the wood, where I turned left and went a few yards to reach the lane. On the other side, a path crossed an arable field to a gate, where I turned right and followed a farm track back to a bend in Botterells Lane.
