I crossed the road and went a short way left, then turned right onto a footpath, that made its way slightly downhill through a wood (where I saw some Nettle-leaved Bellflower) - I was now back on very familiar territory, this path being part of the Ridgeway national trail, here heading north towards Ewelme Park. Beyond the wood, the path continued gently downhill through a huge field (beans, I think) to reach a crossing tree belt. Here I crossed the route of the Chiltern Way, the Ridgeway then continuing slightly uphill through an enormous corn field (I saw Flax and Field Pansies here). The path next passed through a small bit of woodland, then continued between hedges and fences for a while before passing the impressive Ewelme Park on my left.

After passing through a farmyard, the Ridgeway turned right along a track. After a while this bore slightly left as it followed the edge of another field. About a hundred yards before reaching a wood ahead of me, I turned right onto a footpath. This followed the edge of a wood on my right with the park land of Swyncombe House sloping down on my left - this is always a nice path to walk, but the views today were far from their best as it was now a very grey and dismal afternoon (so grey that I was worried that the predicted rain might be arriving a couple of hours early, and so rather hurried the rest of the way back to my car).
