I went over a stile to the right of the gate, the path continuing through what I would guess was an overgrown former smallholding. There were a few path junctions here, but I just kept straight on, soon with gardens and houses on my right, until the path turned right and soon came to the road that runs through Hawridge and Cholesbury (I could have saved a few minutes by simply going left along it to reach my car). I crossed over and took a path on the other side that went slightly left as it dropped downhill across Hawridge Common. I went straight on at an apparent path crossing, and followed the path until I reached a lane close to the bottom of the slope.

I went a few yards right, then turned left along a broad path along the valley bottom (this was the edge of the common, and also on the Herts/Bucks county boundary). I followed it for about a third of a mile, then went half-left through a grassy gap in the trees. Beyond the trees I just had to make my across the grass to the road, and then follow the road right, past the cricket ground back to my parked car.

This was a very pleasant walk, and just suited my needs today - I didn't want anything too challenging, and I prefer not to walk quite so far or drive so far when I have to walk on a Sunday rather than a Saturday (I like to have a day to recover, and recovering on Monday is difficult as my very inconsiderate colleagues make far too much noise and keep waking me up!). It's certainly a route I'd be happy to do again, with lots of woodland paths and some nice views. There were two quite long lane sections, but neither had much traffic on them and both seemed to pass quite quickly. It was a fairly flat route with no steep hills and only a few fairly minor ups and downs.
