I followed the path through the car park, and then turned right along the drive to pass the big house on my right. I continued along the drive for a short distance, until a waymark post indicated where public footpath forked half-right. This very quickly brought me to Rocky Lane, across which the footpath continued across a meadow or pasture and then uphill through a small bit of woodland to reach the cricket pitch at Greys Green. I turned right and followed the edge of the pitch to reach a road, where again I turned right. Shortly after going straight on at a junction where a road went right, I took a restricted bridleway on the left.

I had to follow the byway southeastwards for about a mile and three-quarters. For much of the way it was almost a 'green tunnel', with the the hedges either side overhanging and forming an arch over the byway. There were only occasional glimpses of what lay beyond the hedgerows (I know there used to be a golf course on the right initially, but I didn't see it). After about three-quarters of a mile I crossed another byway called Dog Lane, the byway I was on now being roughly surfaced for a short way until it reached a large white house named Cross Lanes Cottage. There was now a wood on my right, which eventually gave way to some paddocks, beyond which I reached a small hamlet around King's Farm, where the byway turned right.
