From Barn Wood, the path continued through a narrow belt of trees with corn fields either side - it was now following the course of an ancient earthwork called Grim's Ditch, which I'd be following for the next couple of miles or so. At the end of the tree belt, the path went two or three yards right along a field edge, before turning left and resuming its northeasterly course through Baldwin's Wood (the earthwork was now visible just to my left). After a hundred yards or so there was a gap at a path crossroads, where I could again see out to corn fields either side (I had my third Muntjac sighting here). The path then continued through more of the wood, eventually joining a wide track that led to a lane junction. Here I went straight on, following a lane for about a quarter of a mile or so until it ended at a T-junction in part of St Leonards.

I went a few yards left, then took a path on the right that started down a drive. Where this curved slightly left, the path continued ahead beside a wire fence on my right. I passed through a small area of rough grass and then went through a small wood, before the path ran alongside a hedge with paddock fences to my right. This brought me to a lane, near Leylands Farm, across which I went straight on along a farm track - now I was not only following Grim's Ditch but also the county boundary between Hertfordshire (left) and Buckinghamshire. After half a mile or so, the track brought me to Shire Lane.
