I turned right along a track named English Lane for 20 or 30 yards, then took a footpath on the left that ran past the farm buildings on my left. In a small dip it turned right and after a short distance I turned left again onto another footpath starting by a farm gate. This path crossed a large empty pasture diagonally to the far corner, going gradually uphill. Over another stile, I turned left along a track for a few yards, then turned left again between bushes, joining a bridleway headed back to Nuffield.

The bridleway ran through a narrow tree belt, with a field to my left, and then continued through a wood called Heycroft Shaw. Beyond the wood it continued through another tree belt. On reaching the edge of Nuffield, I came to an open space where a footpath went left, beside a fence on my left. This soon brought me to the road through Nuffield, almost opposite the lane that led to Nuffield church and my parked car.

This was a very pleasant walk on a really nice autumn day, in a part of the Chilterns I'd not visited since before the pandemic. It was quite undemanding, the only real uphill being the long but very gentle ascent along the byway going east from Hailey. Nuffield church (which dates back to the Normans) and Grim's Ditch added some historic interest, and there were some far-reaching views, from Nuffield and from the path to Hailey.
