A nice day weather-wise, and a very pleasant walk. By this time, I was fairly sure I wanted to do the whole Chiltern Way.

The whole day’s walk was very enjoyable. From Wellbury, I took a footpath across fields to Little Offley and then followed farm tracks to reach the A505. Safely across this dual carriageway, I followed more paths that took me towards Great Offley. Perhaps the best part of the day’s walk was just after Great Offley, where there was a descent into a valley that seemed typical of the Chiltern scenery to me. This was followed by more paths and tracks through fields and through  a couple of small wooded sections, until I reached the tiny hamlet of Austage End.

On the way back, if I hadn’t read in the Guide Book that there was a Jewish religious institution at Wellbury House, I would have been very surprised to meet three young rabbis in the middle of the countryside!

Total distance: 29.1 miles each way
