Day 5 25/5/05 Sharpenhoe Clappers to Lilley (7.5 miles each way)

Parked at Sharpenhoe Clappers.

Decided to leave off walking the northern extension, and to spend two consecutive days walking the part of the original route that the extension misses out (this was part of my training for my Cumbria Way holiday - I wanted to do two 15-mile walks on successive days).

Lilley Church 22/20/05

This was again a very pleasant walk, on a nice warm day. From Sharpenhoe Clappers, the Chiltern Way followed the top of the escarpment eastwards and along above the busy A6. As I was nearing Streatley, I caught a brief glimpse of a fox . Across the A6, I followed farm tracks which eventually crossed the Icknield Way by a golf course. There then followed a short climb through scrubland to the top of Galley Hill, and a short walk from there to Warden Hill. This section was the highlight of the walk, with views over Luton to Blows Downs. Surprisingly pleasant paths (considering the proximity to Luton) then lead on to Lilley.

Total Distance: 36.6 miles each way
