Pete's Walks - Little Missenden and Forty Green (page 3 of 5)

After about half a mile I went straight on at a path junction, now in Netherlands Wood I think (I was now briefly on the route of the Old Amersham and Beaconsfield walk I did in March 2010). After a while this path left the wood and ran along the northern edge of Knotty Green. At the next junction I went straight on, again entering what was new territory for me - the path here was a little difficult to spot, the start of it being obscured by an obtruding bit of garden hedge. The path was basically a long alley between tall garden hedges or fences either side. On emerging by a road junction, I continued along the lane almost opposite. After perhaps a third of a mile I took a path on the right, initially with allotments to my right. The path then went between a few houses and turned left.

The path now continued along the left edge of some paddocks, with the houses of Forty Green to my left. This was quite an attractive section, the path dipping and rising through a small valley with attractive countryside to my right. The paddocks soon gave way to arable fields, and then in a green meadow I turned right  to head towards Saunder's Wood.

On entering the wood, I immediately forked left, and continued along a path skirting the south western edge of the wood. After a few hundred yards the path joined a leafy tree-lined track on the edge of the wood, which fairly soon turned right to head in a more northerly direction. Beyond the wood the path continued along a surfaced track, and then I turned left on a short field path that took me to a lane called Pauls Hill. I turned right and followed the lane into the village of Penn.
