Pete's Walks - Little Missenden and Forty Green (page 4 of 5)

I went a little way right in Penn, then took a path by the car park of a pub (The Crown). Beyond the car park the path entered Vicarage Wood, descending gently through the trees. I then crossed a couple of very large ploughed fields, dipping and rising through a small valley with pleasant views over the valley of Penn Bottom to my right. The path carried on through another wood, Brook Wood, and then crossed a smaller ploughed field to a minor road.

I followed the road a little distance to the right. When it ended at a T-junction, I went straight on along  a footpath into a wood called Pennhouse Grove, where I soon turned left at a path junction. The path curved right through the wood, and beyond it passed through some parkland on the edge of Penn House. I followed the path as it continued north along a drive from the big house. The drive turned left, then just after the drive turned slightly right, a path on the left led through a small wood and across an empty  pasture or meadow to a road, where I turned left into the village of Penn Street.

Where the road turned right, I went straight on with the large village green to my right, and then took a path entering Penn Wood on the right. There was then a pleasant, if occasionally muddy, section of about three-quarters of a mile through the wood.
