Lunch over, I continued along the path over Lodge Hill. This is one of my favourite spots in the Chilterns, with good views in all directions from different points along the top of the hill. The path dropped down through trees at the western end of the hill, then followed a fence on the left a short way to a kissing gate. Half-way across an arable field I turned left onto a crossing bridleway, following it to the end of the field where I turned right along another bridleway which soon brought me to Old Callow Down Farm.

The bridleway continued past the farm and soon reached Callow Down Farm, where it turned right along the drive for a few yards, then turned left. After passing the farm on my left, the bridleway switched to the left of a hedgerow (originally it went straight through the farmyard but was diverted a few years ago). Soon it was going fairly gently uphill, just inside Neighbour's Wood. This section seemed a bit shorter than I remembered, and I reached the hamlet of Rout's Green quicker than I'd expected.

I followed a street a short way through the hamlet, then turned left at a junction. After a couple of hundred yards I took a footpath starting on the right, which initially ran between garden boundaries. It then crossed through a meadow (a very slight up and down here), before continuing between fences to reach a drive.
