In the valley bottom I turned left onto a crossing bridleway, which soon left Blue Close Wood and ran between a tall hedge on the left and a shorter one on the right. It then ran through Bottom Wood for about a quarter of a mile, still following a valley bottom. I then turned right onto another bridleway (curiously the OS map seems to show the footpath continuing straight on stopping when it reaches the edge of the wood), which climbed quite steeply for a short distance as it left the wood. The bridleway continued between hedgerows for about another quarter of a mile - this section was quite overgrown, clearly no horses had been down here for some time. At the end of the bridleway I turned left along Bottom Lane.

When the lane turned right, i went straight on into Hodgemoor Woods, soon taking a path that forked very slightly right (though I could just as easily have gone straight on, the paths are only a few yards apart). On reaching a path junction I turned right, and followed the path for several hundred yards through the woods. It then left the wood, continuing beside a paddock fence and a tall hedge on my right (with a lane on the other side). The path then turned left, following another side of the paddock, and passed through a stables before re-entering Hodgemoor Woods. I followed the path for just over half a mile through the woods, staying close to their edge on my right and ignoring a couple of paths going left.
