I turned left and followed the path (there were several Stinking Iris growing here) until it ended at a surfaced drive. I turned right onto a bridleway that ran along the drive, which soon curved left and then soon headed quite steeply uphill a short way. The drive ended at a property on the right here, but the bridleway continued straight on, following a wooden fence on the left with a wood to my right. On reaching another surfaced drive, I went right. The drive soon left the wood and after maybe a quarter of a mile it reached some properties on the right.

Opposite 'The Old Laundry' I took a path (on the left) that soon crossed a track, and a few yards further on turned right (from a track it had just started down) into more woodland. The path ran through the middle of an Iron Age hill fort, Medmenhamp Camp, but it was hard to make out any of the banks or ditches. The path then dropped slowly downhill to reach a lane close to a crossroads at Medmenham.

I turned right at the crossroads, between the village church and The Dog And Badger pub on my right (it dates from the 13th century). I followed the road out of the village for about a quarter of a mile, until a wood started on the right-hand side. Here I took a footpath heading up the wooded hillside, which is named Killdown Bank on the OS map.
