At the top of Pitstone Hill, the Ridgeway turned half-left and followed part of an ancient earthwork called Grim's Ditch. It soon entered the woods on the slopes of Aldbury Nowers, continuing through the woods for about half a mile. After going down a short flight of steps the Aldbury Nowers nature reserve was visible on my right, and after a second flight of steps I reached a path T-junction (another path went right a few yards before this).

I sat on a tree stump here to eat my lunch, then turned left (leaving the Ridgeway) for a few yards before going right at another path junction. The path ran through more woodland, then continued slightly downhill for a few hundred yards through a golf course (near Aldbury). On reaching a path crossroads on the far side of the golf course, I turned left along a bridleway. I initially had the golf course on my left, then the bridleway ran through a 'green tunnel' of high hedgerows either side. I was delighted to see my first Wood Anemones of 2023 along here.

On reaching a lane, where I saw my first Lesser Celandine of the year, I turned left. After a couple of hundred yards I took a footpath on the right - I think I've only walked it once before. This ran along the edge of a field a short way before turning left through a gate and crossing a large empty paddock.
