I turned right at the lane, going straight on when another lane came in immediately from the right. I then turned left onto a public footpath that entered Hockeridge Wood. I didn't bother to try to follow the public footpath through the wood, but simply stayed on the obvious path that runs southward through the wood for about half a mile (it passes an information board at one point). When the path eventually left the wood, it rose uphill beside a hedge on the left, switching to the other side of the hedge at the top of the slope. It ended at a lane in Ashley Green.

Across the lane a bridleway continued, between hedges that contained a great deal of holly. The bridleway reached Flamstead Farm after a quarter of a mile or so, where it turned right and then left. After another three or four hundred yards it turned right again, and started to drop down into a valley called Chesham Vale. It eventually became a surfaced track, which brought me to the road through Chesham Vale (I noticed the pub here is now called The Happy Olive).
